Aligned to the UK National Curriculum

How Lessona maps to the framework you actually plan against.

Lessona maps every UK lesson to the National Curriculum programmes of study and attainment targets for the relevant Key Stage and Year. Plans for England follow the DfE National Curriculum. Scotland uses the Curriculum for Excellence experiences and outcomes. Wales follows the Curriculum for Wales 2022 (areas of learning and experience). Northern Ireland uses the NICCA programme. Set your jurisdiction in your teacher profile so terminology and assessment language match.

Coverage runs Reception (Foundation Stage) through Year 13. Key Stages 1 and 2 (primary) align to the EYFS framework and the National Curriculum subjects. Key Stages 3 and 4 (secondary, Years 7 to 11) cover GCSE-track content. Key Stage 5 (Years 12 to 13) covers A Level specifications; plans cite the exam board (AQA, OCR, Edexcel, CCEA, WJEC, SQA) where the spec content differs.

Lessona's UK lesson template uses learning objectives, success criteria, and differentiation by ability group as the structural backbone. The vocabulary matches what UK teachers actually use (mark schemes, AfL, plenary, starter) rather than US imports. SEND adjustments and EAL scaffolds are generated alongside core plans.

Common questions

What UK teachers usually want to know before signing up.

Does Lessona align to the National Curriculum?

Yes. Every UK lesson plan cites the relevant National Curriculum programme of study, attainment target, and Year. For England this is the DfE National Curriculum. Scotland uses the Curriculum for Excellence (experiences and outcomes). Wales uses the Curriculum for Wales 2022. Northern Ireland uses NICCA.

What about GCSE and A Level specifications?

Year 10 and 11 plans cover GCSE-track content. Year 12 and 13 plans cite the relevant exam board (AQA, OCR, Edexcel, CCEA, WJEC, SQA) and the specification code, since spec content diverges between boards. Set your school's preferred boards in your teacher profile so plans default to them.

Can Lessona handle SEND and EAL?

Yes. SEND adjustments (scaffolds, simplified language, sentence stems, visual supports) and EAL strategies (bilingual word banks, talk partners, sentence frames) are generated alongside the core plan when you indicate ability groups in your class context. The standard ability-group split is Emerging, Developing, Extending.

How much does Lessona cost for UK teachers?

£9.50 per month, billed monthly in GBP via Stripe. There is a 7-day free trial that includes 3 lesson plans, 2 presentations, and 5 printable resources, with no credit card required. Cancel any time. Schools subscriptions are invoiced annually direct to the school.

How is Lessona different from Twinkl or Oak National Academy?

Twinkl is a resource library; Oak National Academy is a free curriculum + lesson library; Lessona is a planning tool. Lessona generates a fresh, region-specific plan from your inputs (year, subject, topic, ability groups) rather than serving pre-made content. Many teachers use both: Twinkl for printables, Oak for video lessons, Lessona for the planning + slide deck + differentiation.

Does Lessona work for OFSTED-friendly planning?

Lessona's plan structure (learning objective, success criteria, hook, modelled examples, independent practice, plenary) maps to what OFSTED inspectors look for in good teaching. The 'why are you doing this' rationale that inspectors ask about is in the plan's learning intention. That said, OFSTED outcomes depend on classroom practice, not just plan format.

Has Lessona been tested with UK teachers?

Phase 1 testing with NZ teachers wrapped up in April 2026 and the product passed. Phase 2 is now underway with primary and secondary teachers in the UK, covering National Curriculum, GCSE, and A Level alignment across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Findings from this round are folded into the UK templates before full public availability later in 2026.
